Job Title: Retail Driver Associate

Location: Waxahachie CARE Services (Food Bank)
Schedule: Part-Time M, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat (every other) 7:30A- 1PM. Off Tuesdays

Pay : $14/hour

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Job Summary

The Retail Driver Associate is responsible for the safe and timely collection of donated food from retail partners and the delivery of those donations to the food bank. This role plays a critical part in reducing food waste and ensuring that quality food reaches neighbors in need. The Retail Driver Associate will interact regularly with grocery store receiving teams, school and daycare contacts, and CARE Services staff while maintaining accurate documentation, food safety standards, and vehicle inspections.

Key Responsibilities

Retail Food Recovery & Transportation

• Drive CARE Services vehicles to designated retail locations to pick up donated food.
• Communicate professionally with grocery store and receiving team members regarding CARE Services’ food recovery needs.
• Load, sort, and pack donated food into the company trailer according to food safety guidelines.
• Deliver donations to the food bank and ensure food is placed into appropriate coolers or storage areas upon arrival.

Food Sorting, Audits & Data Entry

• Conduct daily audits of donated food to ensure quality, safety, and compliance standards.
• Accurately record and enter weight data for donated food into required tracking systems.
• Sort donations by category and condition to support efficient distribution.

Route Coordination & Communication

• Use the company phone to contact school and daycare partners regarding weekly food deliveries.
• Make adjustments to delivery routes as needed due to schedule changes, donation volume, or partner requests.
• Maintain clear communication with CARE Services staff regarding delays, issues, or special needs.

Vehicle & Safety Responsibilities

• Complete a daily truck check sheet prior to starting each route.
• Ensure vehicles and trailers are clean, organized, and safe for operation.
• Report maintenance needs or safety concerns immediately to leadership.
• Follow all traffic laws, food safety standards, and organizational policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record .
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 25 pounds .
• Comfortable driving box trucks, vans, or vehicles with trailers (training provided as needed).
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with retail partners, schools, and daycare staff.
• Ability to work independently, follow routes, and manage time efficiently.
• Commitment to food safety, accuracy, and community service.
• Previous delivery, warehouse, or nonprofit experience preferred but not required.

Work Environment

This position involves frequent driving, outdoor activity, and physical movement. The Retail Driver Associate works in a fast-paced nonprofit environment and must be flexible to accommodate changing schedules, donation volumes, and partner needs. Reliability, professionalism, and a service-oriented mindset are essential.
