Job Description

We are a property and tax law firm currently with 5 attorneys that handles clients throughout Pennsylvania. Due to Delaware's recent state-wide property tax re-assessment, we are looking to expand into Delaware. Therefore, the ideal candidate is admitted to Pennsylvania and Delaware, and compensation for attorneys admitted in Delaware will be toward the top of our projected total compensation.

You will be handling all aspects of the tax assessment appeal process for our clients, including handling the first level appeal hearings in front of the Board of Assessment Appeals, and then, when necessary, the second level appeal hearings to the county Court of Common Pleas. Our process is typically that we contact a prospective client by mail, and they respond directly to you with a request for a tax assessment appeal. First, you would work with our legal assistants to develop a comparable sales report and analyze whether the client has a valid appeal. If so, and the client wants to proceed, you usually coordinate with an appraiser. When the appraisal comes back, you would analyze it and if you determine the appeal is still in the client's best interest, you then file the appeal to the Board of Assessment Appeals. You would attend the hearing and represent the client. If the client is dissatisfied with the outcome, we would potentially appeal to the county Court of Common Pleas and then, possibly, but rarely, to a full trial. You would be frequently communicating with the solicitors of school districts to settle cases before they go to a full trial.

For attorneys admitted in Delaware, your focus for 2026 will be Delaware, with the main focus on New Castle County. Therefore, you will likely be attending hearings in Wilmington on a frequent basis. Secondarily, you may cover hearings in Pennsylvania, with a focus on Chester and Delaware Counties, so you may attend hearings in West Chester and Media, as well as Kent and Sussex County Delaware.

You will be responsible for communication with the client, the admission of evidence into the record, attending the hearings, communicating the results with the client, filing appeals of those decisions if necessary, and eventually attending hearings for those appeals. We currently have 6 support staff members that will assist you in many of these tasks.

For 2026, the vast majority of the work can be done remotely, therefore, you will be working from home the majority of the time. You would need to occasionally pick up mail and, rarely, meet with clients in an office. Most client contact is handled via email, text, phone, or mail. A good candidate should have sufficient knowledge and experience in the geography of New Castle County and Southeastern Pennsylvania, and some background or knowledge of real estate valuation and taxation. You should have good phone and email skills, and you should have the patience to be able to handle hundreds of clients, and be able to communicate with them efficiently and politely, and return calls, texts, and emails within 24 hours. If you are admitted in Pennsylvania only your focus will be Southeastern Pennsylvania

Base compensation for Pennsylvania only is $90,000 a year, with a potential bonus for good performance of as much as $30,000 a year. Base compensation for attorneys admitted in Pennsylvania and Delaware would be $110,000 a year, with a potential bonus for good performance of as much as $30,000 a year. We pay/reimburse for up to $1,000 a month in health insurance premiums and other out of pocket costs. We have a both a pension-like plan that we will contribute to on your behalf as part of your compensation package as well as a 401(k) plan which has matching contributions up to 6%.

Our goal start date would be December 1st. Please send resumes no later than November 25th. Please feel free to reach out by email if you have any questions.
