The Principal or Sr. Principal Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Engineer at Northrop Grumman leads the development and application of advanced NDI tools and methodologies for inspecting composite and metallic aerospace structures. They apply principles of chemistry, physics, and materials science to solve material integrity issues, develop NDT procedures, support audits, and train personnel. This role requires collaboration with engineering and quality teams, security clearance, and extensive experience in NDT techniques.

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal or Sr. Principal Non Destructive Inspection Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA within the Palmdale Vehicle Engineering organization.

Responsibilities:

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and specifying Non-destructive inspection tools and methodologies and their related application processes for use in bonded composite structures, metallics, systems and subsystems.

  • The candidate will apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions.

  • The candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering and quality organizations performing detailed technical reviews of specifications, inspection plans, and standard developments. 

  • The candidate will provide technical and engineering support to the NDT department, develop NDT procedures and techniques, train NDT personnel, research and develop new inspection methods for production inspection, assist in DCMA and internal audits.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer include a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with no experience

  • Basic Qualifications for a Sr Principal Engineer include a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 3 years of experience.

  • Candidate must have an American Society for Non-destructive Testing (SNT) LV III in multiple methods

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access prior to start.

Primary Level Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
