Epsilon Systems is seeking a full time Pipefitter III in Portsmouth, VA.

Position Summary

Reads and interprets blueprints and sketches to repair, modify, install and dismantle various pipes and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems. Performs fabrication, assembly and testing of piping systems and components. Requires little to no supervision.

Responsibilities:
    \n
  • Reports to the Production Manager. Once assigned to a project, reports directly to the project Foreman in the performance of his/her responsibilities. In the absence of the Foreman, he/she will report to an individual designated by the Foreman. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • \n
  • Strictly adheres to corporate, federal, state and local safety regulations prior to setting up or operating any machinery.
  • \n
  • Ensures that all Epsilon Systems Mission Readiness Group Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) are worn and that all damaged PPE is discarded.
  • \n
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices; turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area, etc.
  • \n
  • Ensures all tools listed on the "Required Tools List" are available for use within two weeks of your employment.
  • \n
  • Returns tools/equipment checked out from the Tool Room to proper location and reports lost, stolen, missing or damaged items to the Facilities Foreman in accordance the Process Instruction.
  • \n
  • Ensures that all requirements of the Epsilon Systems Mission Readiness Group Quality Assurance Manual are followed when invoked by QA Workbook, Work Package (WP), Work Instructions (WI) and/or other guidance given by management.
  • \n
  • Follows detailed repair procedures and instructions (e.g.; QA Workbooks, Work packages steps, RECs, CWPs, FWPs, TGIs etc.) required to complete the production operations.
  • \n
  • Notifies Foreman of any unsatisfactory condition(s) identified during the production operation (i.e.; repair, modification, etc.).
  • \n
  • Coordinates the efforts of other trades during an installation, modification or repair operation.
  • \n
  • Performs component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose the problem and provide most cost effective recommendation for completing repairs.
  • \n
  • Performs and/or verifies mechanical alignments.
  • \n
  • Ensures control and assumes responsibility for Level-1 material controls in accordance with Epsilon Systems Mission Readiness Group Instructions.
  • \n
  • Performs installation, repair, overhaul or modification in place or in shop to piping systems and components (e.g.; valves, compressors, reducers, filters etc.).
  • \n
  • Performs component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose problems.
  • \n
  • Assists with the performance of on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
  • \n
  • Prepares and installs equipment or system alterations (e.g.; TEMPALTs, SHIPALTs, ORDALTs, etc.) IAW the directives (i.e.; instructions, drawings, MILSPECs, etc.).
  • \n
  • Performs intermediate set up, alignment, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools used in the trade.
  • \n
  • Layouts material prior to performing pipe bending operations and machine parts to achieve proper joint design as per Technical Work Documents.
  • \n
  • Fabricates and installs intermediate/complex fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during the welding process.
  • \n
  • Produces quality piping assemblies, in difficult or adverse conditions and is proficient in brazing.
  • \n
  • Performs flushing/cleaning of piping systems and components in accordance with TWD.
  • \n
  • Performs pressure testing of completed/assembled piping systems in accordance with TWD.

Requirements:
    \n
  • High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional vocational courses or technical school graduate, and/or military and/or civilian experience with marine piping systems in a repair department or shipyard.
  • \n
  • 8 years' experience.
  • \n
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain government base access and private shipyard access.
  • \n
  • Must be able to understand and perform intermediate set up, alignment, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools used in the trade.
  • \n
  • Must have intermediate knowledge and understanding of shipboard piping systems (repair/ installation practices, procedures, pipe bending, alignments and troubleshooting) and blue print reading.
  • \n
  • Communicates effectively, work independently or in a group.
  • \n
  • Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply.
  • \n
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • \n
  • Must be qualified in multiple brazing processes.
  • \n
  • Must be able to work outside of trade

  • Current security clearance level SECRET or ability to obtain and maintain SECRET clearance.

  • Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships).

  • Able to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
  • \n
  • Must have manual and finger dexterity; able to grasp, manipulate, assemble small objects.
  • \n
  • Able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • \n
  • Able to perceive and distinguish normal range of colors.
  • \n
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
