Overview

Tekberry is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Grant Writer to support our client, a world-class research and academic institution. In this role, you will identify and pursue funding opportunities with local and family foundations to advance the department s community-focused research initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice Chief of Research, the Grant Writer will collaborate with faculty, program leads, and research administrators to develop competitive proposals, manage submission timelines, and ensure high-quality, compliant applications aligned with our client s research standards. Responsibilities

Grant Development and Strategy (60%)

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize funding opportunities from local and family foundations.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators (PIs), faculty, and research teams to develop compelling proposals that align with community-based research priorities.
  • Draft, edit, and refine narrative sections, including statements of need, project descriptions, and impact summaries.
  • Coordinate proposal timelines, gather required documents, and ensure timely submission.
  • Track proposal outcomes and maintain an active database of funding opportunities and submissions.

Research Administration and Compliance (40%)

  • Partner with the PI in preparing administrative components of proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines.
  • Ensure all submissions comply with Stanford University, federal, and foundation regulations, including IRB and NIH standards.
  • Liaise with Stanford s Research Management Group (RMG), Office of Sponsored Research (OSR), and other administrative offices to manage routing and approvals.
  • Utilize Stanford systems such as SeRA, Cayuse Proposals, FFIT/MyProjects, eCertification, OPACS, and Authority Manager for proposal and compliance management.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Master s degree (required).
  • 3+ years of direct experience writing and preparing grant proposals in higher education or research settings.
  • Proven experience developing and submitting proposals for federal, state, and foundation funding.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate technical or scientific concepts into clear, persuasive language.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple proposals and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with research compliance processes, including IRB and NIH standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and executive leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Stanford University s research administration systems and processes (RMG, OSR, SeRA, Cayuse, FFIT/MyProjects, eCertification, OPACS, Authority Manager).
  • Prior experience in community-focused or health-related research proposal development.
  • Experience writing for local or family foundation audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sponsored research policies and administrative requirements.
